YSL Beauty Chadstone – a stunning international store design.  Studio Gray-Scale worked with L’Oreal Luxe Australia – YSL, Vicinity Centres - Chadstone and Ramvek locally, to re-interpret the international drawings for local standards - bringing the store design to life here in Australia. The project involved translating YSL’s design guidelines into construction documentation and sourcing locally available finishes to meet the client's specifications. The store features bold and modern elements, such as black and white marble, linear gold profiles, and polished stainless steel - all of which embody the YSL brand.

This project demonstrated a clear understanding of the brief; to source fit-for-purpose materials and custom light fittings within a tight schedule. Collaboration with the client, shopfitter, and suppliers was essential to ensure local finishes matched those applied to overseas joinery installed. The project also showcased excellent interior design skills by adhering to YSL's design guidelines without compromising on design integrity.

An innovative aspect of the design was the use of a lightweight composite material for the shopfront, consisting of a 6mm thick marble skin with honeycomb backing; meeting Chadstone's design guidelines, whilst avoiding structural overload on the suspended concrete slab beneath the tenancy. The 'golden arch' was another unique feature, constructed from metal profiles and LED light cubes in a gold stainless steel finish, creating bold visual statements at the two shopfront entrances.

Key learnings from the project included the importance of attention to detail and close collaboration with suppliers, especially when it came to the installing the marble composite panels and ensuring a seamless finish.
